This tea was produced from old and ancient trees growing at 1600m in elevation in the Túng Sán commune area of Hà Giang.
Túng Sán is a beautiful natural area on rocky slopes on the western face of Tây Côn Lĩnh mountain.
I met with a new tea producer in Hà Giang on a trip in November of 2024 who is quite skilled in black tea production. They are able to tweak the production methods to create many different flavor and aroma profiles. I mentioned that I enjoy black teas with a honey, warming spice profile with a rich mouthfeel and lingering effect and less of a high roast, malty profile. This batch really hits those desired notes and I am quite happy with how this tea came out.
A forest flower honey and warming spice fragrance emerges after the first rinse. Complex warming spice, honey with some cocoa flavor and nice minerality. Rich mouthfeel and lingering sweetness in the throat. Nice clear headed and energizing qi effect with a rich, lingering effect in the mouth and throat.
This tea is flexible but I like to brew it at 90-95C for medium steeps and then 100C for the later steeps
